INSIDE FRONT COVER: Where you can write if you want...
If you are looking for a place to write, of course you need a quiet place to relax, think, chew on your pen, bash the keys on your laptop, and let those thoughts flow easily from your mind to the page.
That means having somewhere comfortable to sit and work. We know how important those little details are, like to have somewhere clutter-free and enough areas to spread out your notes and contemplate your plot-lines.
Here at The Writer's Retreat you will find a number of ideal spaces...
Firstly, in the living room there is a dedicated antique writing desk near the window, with plug sockets nearby (UK 3-pin and French 2-pin). The area is well-lit, with a wall-spotlight above, a light (converted from an old typewriter) to the side, and a book-light on the desk.
The chair is a 1970s high-backed leather swivel Frederik Scott 'SUPPORTO'. It is height-adjustable, with moveable back support that you can lean into while you're pondering your next paragraph, and has leather-topped armrests.
You'll be close to the kitchen, fridge and pantry for those cups of tea or wine top-ups.
Secondly, if you're staying with others and you want to escape to the quiet of the upstairs bedroom, there is another comfortable vintage chair, with firm-cushioned seat and back. If you like, bring a folding table down from the terrace, and you're all set. There's an uplighter behind you with an adjustable directional combined lamp, and when it's hot there is a fan next to you. Need some soft background noise to help you concentrate? There's a radio tuned to something French.
Thirdly, the mezzanine has a half-round table that looks out to the terrace and the view beyond. Lighting, a fan and power sockets are right by you, and when you feel like a nap to recoup from all the excitement of completing another chapter, just crash out on the day-bed that's behind you.
For number four, there's the terrace where you can sit and write under the shaded roof. But this space is not recommended – you'll never get any work done, what with the distracting view, drinks fridge on tap and deafening silence.
FINALLY, if you still can't get no satisfaction and feel the need to take a break for a refresh of inspiration, nip round the corner to the viewing platform, have a rest on the bench, and allow those sought-after words to effortlessly drift to you.
